    The 2019 Brookline Education Foundation 5th Grade Spelling Bee took place on Sunday, March 10, 2019. The first place winner in our March 2019 Spelling Bee was Owen Bergstein from Pierce School. The winning word was "supercilious." Congratulations to our winner and to all the students who participated in our Bee! How does the Children's Spelling Bee work? The Children’s Spelling Bee is an “old-fashioned” spelling bee with the spellers taking turns, each spelling a different word. Once a speller misspells one word, he or she is out of the Bee.     BEF Trivia Bee, Friday, March 27, 2020! Thanks to everyone who participated in our biggest, most successful Trivia Bee last March! This event raised over a $100,000 for BEF grants and programs. A night of trivia fun and competition led to generous proceeds from tickets, raffles and donations that will benefit the Brookline Public Schools and touch many, many students! Thank you. In the tenth anniversary edition of this treasured Brookline institution, we will honor the memory of beloved BHS English teacher Margaret Metzger and celebrate the joys and challenges of working as an educator through six original essays prepared and delivered by this year's Fellows, and hosted by their coach, BHS English Department chair John Andrews.
